Car Seats Pose Laceration and Choking Risks

On November 4, 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with car seat manufacturer Britax Child Safety Inc., of Charlotte, N.C., has recalled around 23,000 Chaperone infant car seats due to laceration and choking dangers. Consumers are warned to stop use of these products immediately. These car seats pose a frightening threat to infants and toddlers, and Britax should be held responsible for injuries sustained from these products, says Alan Ripka, Esquire.

The firm has received reports of the chest clip of the car seat breaking, causing lacerations and scratches to arms and a finger, and one report involved an infant placing the clip in his mouth.

The affected models of Chaperone car seats are E9L95P2 (Red Mill), E9L95P3, E9L95P5 (Cowmooflage), E9L69N9 (Moonstone). These models were manufactured between April 2009 and May 2010, and were sold at mass and independent retailers nationwide and online from June 2009 to October 2010.
